Designing an Effective Implementation Plan for ORIGO Stepping Stones

The following resources are designed to guide leaders through the steps to get started and/or get better with your Stepping Stones Implementation through a series of self-paced content and activities.

What You Will Learn:

  • Learn best practices in effective implementation.
  • Identify key activities for schools and districts to engage in during the stages of implementation including establishing an implementation team, developing a plan, and using a continuous improvement cycle.
  • Understand how to develop an implementation plan to use the Stepping Stones program with integrity.

What You Will Do

  • Part 1: Establish an implementation team to help you lead Stepping Stones implementation efforts.
  • Part 2: Work collaboratively with your team to develop a plan including a vision, goals, communication plan, and training plan.
  • Part 3: Develop a data collection plan to measure the impact of your plan on student outcomes and implementation integrity of Stepping Stones across your school(s).

Target Audience: Math Leaders/Curriculum Directors

Objectives:

  • Explore the principles of implementation science to use as the foundation for your implementation approach.
  • Identify key activities to accomplish during the first stage of implementation, the Exploration Stage.
  • Learn about the importance of establishing an implementation team to help you successfully implement Stepping Stones.

Activities:

Step 1: Watch the Video (est time, 15 mins)

Step 2: Explore the Implementation Handbook and select implementation team members to invite to meet with you to review Part 2 and 3 of this series. (est time, 30 mins)

Target Audience: Math Leaders/Curriculum Directors AND Selected Implementation Team Members

Objectives:

  • Learn the key activities to accomplish as you prepare for implementation of the Stepping Stones program.

Activities:

Step 1: Watch the Video (est. time 15 mins)

Step 2: Collaborate with your implementation team to complete the first page of the Stepping Stones Implementation Plan and the training plan on page 2 of the document. (est. Time, 1 hour)

Target Audience: Math Leaders/Curriculum Directors AND Selected Implementation Team Members

Objectives:

  • Understand the different types of data teams use within a continuous improvement cycle to monitor progress and impact of their implementation plan.
  • Develop a data collection plan to evaluate student outcomes and Stepping Stones implementation integrity.

Activities:

Step 1: Watch the Video (est. time 22 mins)

Step 2: Review the Stepping Stones Implementation tools with your team. (15 mins)

Step 3: Collaborate with your implementation team to complete the data collection plan on page 2 of the Stepping Stones Implementation Plan (est. Time, 30 mins).

Stepping Stones Implementation Tools

ORIGO Education offers multiple tools to support school systems to measure the implementation of the Stepping Stones program across classrooms and schools. These tools are meant to be used to guide professional development planning and coaching support and are NOT intended to be used to evaluate teacher performance in any capacity.

The purpose of this survey is to collect feedback on teacher’s perceptions of the Stepping Stones program and to understand how the program is being used in classrooms. The survey includes items to understand how often the program is being used, what components of the lessons are being used most, and successes and challenges with implementation at the classroom level. The survey is intended to take between 5-15 minutes and is available in a Microsoft Excel format or a Google Form.

The Stepping Stones Core Four (SSCF) tool is designed to help an observer understand the extent to which school personnel are applying the core elements of the Stepping Stones program in classrooms during brief classroom walkthroughs. Using this tool, observers gather data on the Core Four: components of the Stepping Stones program that are look-fors. Observers then give educators feedback and identify and summarize needs for professional development to improve the implementation of the Stepping Stones program. This tool is not intended to be used to evaluate teacher performance.

The purpose of the Stepping Stones Implementation Tool (SSIT) is to provide District and/or School Implementation Teams with an efficient measure of the extent to which school personnel are applying the core elements of the Stepping Stones program in classrooms. This tool is intended to be used over time to guide implementation planning of the Stepping Stones program. Data is collected through classroom observations, teacher and student interviews, document reviews, and surveys to provide a comprehensive measure of implementation across curriculum, planning, instructional delivery and assessment areas. This tool is not intended to be used to evaluate teacher performance but to inform the actions of District and/or School Implementation Teams. Teams are encouraged to view the SSIT Webinar (linked below) before using the tool.
